Principal's Welcome

 

Dear Horace Greeley Students,

When you return to Greeley this fall, you will find new spaces to explore, new ways to spend your time, and more opportunities to make the school day work for you. We have been busy this summer so we can bring you some exciting changes.

One of the biggest is a brand-new outdoor classroom between the iLab and the Global Learning Center. Imagine a class discussion outside, a small performance, a science observation, or working with friends on a project without four walls around you. This space was created to bring more energy, creativity, and fresh air into the school day, and we cannot wait to see how you use it.

We are also introducing Enhancement on Day 5, a flexible period designed around what you need each week: use the time to prepare for a test, get extra help, complete an assignment, or meet with a teacher. You can also pursue an independent project in the STEAM Center or arts, join Open Strings or Chorus, or explore an interest that does not fit into your regular schedule.

Offerings will change throughout the year, giving you new ways to strengthen your academic work, create something of your own, or try something completely different. Each Day 5, you choose how to make the time matter.

We are also working to expand Student Government and give more students a real voice in what happens at Greeley. You do not need to hold a title or run for office to get involved. Come to K110 on Day 5 to share your ideas, raise an issue, or help shape the student experience. If you have something to say, we want to hear it.

Advisory will also have a new look this year. Our Peer Leaders will co-lead Advisory alongside our faculty advisors, bringing more student voice, energy, and connection to the program. For ninth graders, this means the Peer Leaders you get to know in your Day 6 Peer Group will also be part of your Advisory experience, creating continuity between the two programs and giving you familiar student leaders to turn to throughout your first year at Greeley.

We are excited that Ms. Susan Twomey will be shifting from the English Department into her new role as Greeley’s Library Media Specialist and leader of the Global Learning Center. She will bring her experience as a teacher, along with fresh ideas and a focus on research and digital literacy, to help students find reliable information, strengthen their research skills, and use technology thoughtfully and responsibly.

We are especially excited to welcome the Class of 2030 to Greeley! On Tuesday, September 8, freshmen will have the campus to themselves for a morning designed to help them meet new people, find their way around, connect with Peer Leaders, and get a feel for life at Greeley before everyone else arrives. 

Students in grades 10–12 will have a delayed start that morning. Then, on Wednesday, September 9th, get ready for one of Greeley’s loudest and most beloved traditions: Honk for Seniors!
